MIAMI — The first storm of the 2018 Hurricane season has officially formed in the Caribbean.

The National Hurricane Center made the announcement at 9 a.m. today.

The storm is currently located in the northwestern Caribbean Sea.

New updates on the storm will be made by the National Hurricane Center beginning at 10:00 am.

The storm is expected to move into the Gulf of Mexico over the weekend before impacting the Gulf Coast somewhere between Louisiana and Florida.

Hurricane Hunters are expected to head into the storm later today to gather more data.

The 2018 Atlantic hurricane season officially begins on June 1.
