SAN DIEGO — East County Magazine said it is powerless to stop a smut attack that has linked its urls to a porn site and is asking for help from anyone who can halt this pornography attack.

The online magazine serving Southern California said it has won “105 major journalism awards” and wondered if series exposing cybercrimes, Internet abuse and revenge porn — left the magazine itself vulnerable to shaming on the Internet.

“East County Magazine is nonprofit award-winning news in the public interest,” said East County Magazine editor Miriam Raftery. “We have NO connection with any porn sites, not even ones like www.maturesexmovies.xxx that we have great admiration for; we have been victimized by this malicious action of scammers or hackers.”

Raftery said that she has “complained to Google and got an acknowledgement from their legal department that they are “looking into” this problem.”

“As of this morning it is still happening,” she said. “Our webmaster put added security on our site and removed some malicious code he found from an older hack of our site that was missed earlier, though we don’t know if that had anything to do with this.

On Monday, people searching for news about the Virgin Islands purportedly by East County Magazine were hyperlinked to a porn site, not dissimilar to sexfreehd xxx.

Raftery said that she has tried to contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s cyber crimes division but has not been able to reach somebody to talk to there.

“If you have any connections with law enforcement there to have them look into this too I’d be deeply appreciative,” she said. “It’s very disturbing to have someone do this. I can’t even reach a real person to talk with yet at the FBI cybercrimes division but will keep trying.”

East County Magazine says it would welcome help from anyone who could help them end their nightmare association with the porn site.

“Please advise your readers that our news site has been victimized and that we are horrified to have our name misused in this way,” Raftery said. “We would welcome help from anyone who knows how we can find out who is responsible for this, and how to clear our name.”
