CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A prominent St. Thomas attorney was killed by a gunshot wound inside an exclusive gated community on the north side of the island early Sunday evening.
Police said that units from the Criminal Investigation Bureau and units from the Mariel C. Newton Command went to Peterborg about 6:25 p.m. on Sunday after a report of “discharging of shots.”
Michael Quinn, 57, was discovered lying motionless on the ground by police, the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) said.
A preliminary police investigation revealed that Quinn had died from a single gunshot wound.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) on the scene determined that he had no vital signs, according to VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte.
The VIPD said in a published report that Quinn suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.
Quinn’s biography online says that he specializes in “criminal litigation” and is a New York native.
Police alerted the public about the incident at 12:39 a.m. today.
Peterborg is the narrow peninsula that separates world famous Magens Bay from the Atlantic Ocean on St. Thomas’ north side.
A St. Thomas resident cannot enter the upscale gated community of Estate Peterborg without a gate pass.
Police said the case is under investigation by the Major Crime Unit, according to Dratte.
