FREDERIKSTED — The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) said this afternoon that the St. Croix Transfer Station and the Anguilla landfill are temporarily closed due to a power outage.
The VIWMA said a lightning strike to a transformer near the St. Croix Transfer Station and heavy rainfalls created a slipping hazard on the face of the Anguilla landfill.
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) and the VIWMA said that they are working diligently to resolve the matter.
“We are asking residents to hold bulky waste at home,” the VIWMA said in a prepared statement. “The public and all haulers are asked to hold waste.”
The Authority anticipates normal operating hours on Saturday, September 1, 2018.
The VIWMA Preserving Paradise Team continues to work diligently to provide reliable services and would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation.
