BIG FAT MESS! Central High School Does Not Re-Open As Scheduled … ‘Education Regrets’

MID-ISLAND — The Office of the Insular Superintendent, St. Croix District regrets to inform the public that St. Croix Central High School will remain closed on Tuesday, September 11.

“The electrical component needed for repairs is currently in transit from the mainland,” the V.I. Department of Education posted on Facebook. “The electrician is on standby awaiting the delivery and will commence repairs upon its arrival.”

“Classes were dismissed early on September 6 as a result of a power outage caused by a small electrical fire in the kitchen,” Education Commissioner Dr. Sharon Anne McCollum said. “The cafeteria and major classroom wings were affected and remain without electricity.”

As power restoration efforts make progress, the Department of Education said that it will provide an update on the status of the school for Wednesday, September 12. Parents and students are asked to visit the Department’s Facebook page and check local media for updates.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDOE), like the Virgin Islands Department of Public Works (DPW), the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA), the Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) and the Virgin Islands Department of Justice do not send press communications to the Virgin Islands Free Press, but they do to every other territorial media.
