FREDERIKSTED — Police say they are investigating after officers found a man shot to death in his apartment at St. Croix Mutual Homes in Estate Grove Place.

Akuojo Jackman, 29, an employee of Big Kmart West, suffered gunshot wounds to the upper part of his body and his death is classified as a homicide.

A friend of Jackman’s contacted police at about 10:44 a.m. Thursday and said he had seen Jackman alive at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday when he left a neighbor’s apartment and went home.

The neighbor told police that about 10 minutes after Jackman left, she heard gunshots and a vehicle door slam — and hasn’t seen him since.

Friends became concerned when they noticed that his blue Mazda 3 was not parked where he usually parked it and also when he didn’t show up to work at Kmart on Thursday.

The Virgin Islands Police Department went to Jackman’s apartment to see if he was OK in Building 54 at Mutual Homes on Thursday and found him lying dead on the living room floor of gunshot wounds.

If you have information about Jackman’s murder you can call police in confidence at the Criminal Investigations Bureau on St. Croix at (340) 778-2211. You can also call Crimestoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477.

Jackman’s death is the 26th murder to occur in territory in 2018, including 18 on St. Croix and eight on St. Thomas.

AKUOJO JACKMAN WAS REMEMBERED AS A KIND AND HARD-WORKING CO-WORKER AT BIG KMART WEST IN FREDERIKSTED.
