CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Police say a man is recovering in the hospital after being shot in the hip on Tuesday.
The man told police he was walking home from work after 10 p.m. on Tuesday when someone fired gunshots at him near the basketball court in Tutu Valley.
The injured man was taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center by a private vehicle and police went to the hospital about 10:33 p.m. to interview him.
The man stated that a silver Acura MDX SUV pulled up next to him and fired a shot that struck him on the left side of his body near his hip.
After being shot the man said he was able to run home and called a friend to drive him to the emergency room.
The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) did not issue a prepared statement on this incident.
