Jerome Turnbull, 44, was shot multiple times in Hospital Ground and died from the gunshots he sustained, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
The 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of shots fired in the Hospital Ground area at 5:17 p.m. on Saturday, according to the VIPD.
Police units from the Richard N. Callwood Command along with units from the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) traveled to the scene and found “an unresponsive black male lying on the side of the road.” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said.
“The male appeared to have sustained multiple gunshots wounds to the body,” Dratte said.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were on scene and determined that Turnbull did not have any vital signs, he said.
Next of kin identified the male as 44-year-old Jerome Turnbull, police said.
According to Superior Court records, Turnbull was found in possession of a MAC-11 firearm with ammunition after being stopped for speeding on November 28, 2011.
Police said at 12:11 p.m. on Sunday that the case is currently under active investigation by the Major Crime Unit.
