TORTOLA NATIVE KHADIN FAHIE GOT MORE TIME IN PRISON THAN HIS ST. THOMAS COUNTERPART
CHARLOTTE AMALIE – A Tortola native got 7.17 years in prison and a St. Thomas native got 6.75 years in prison for introducing nearly 40 bricks of cocaine into the territory.
Khadin Fahie, 23, of the British Virgin Islands, and Jesus Rosario Rondon, 40, a resident of St. Thomas, were both sentenced today on an information charging each man with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, United States Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert said.
U.S. District Court Judge Curtis Gomez sentenced Fahie to 86 months imprisonment and five years of supervised release. Rondon received a sentence of 81 months imprisonment and five years supervised release.
Judge Gomez ordered both men to perform 400 hours of community service.
According to court documents, a Virgin Islands Police Department officer conducted a routine traffic stop of an unregistered SUV operated by Rondon. Fahie was a passenger in the vehicle.
The officer observed two large duffle bags in the back seat of the SUV, and asked if either owned the bags. Fahie and Rondon each person responded that the duffle bags belonged to the other person.
The officer then requested and received permission to search the duffle bags and discovered 39 bricks of cocaine.
This case was investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the VIPD).
It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Delia Smith.
