VIPD: St. Croix’s Jose Acosta Arrested For Allegedly Slapping, Hitting Woman

CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man has been arrested on domestic violence-related charges after he allegedly slapped a woman and hit her in the chest in at least two separate incidents.

Jose C. Acosta, 55, was arrested at 6:15 p.m. on Monday and charged with two counts of simple assault and battery–domestic violence, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Police said the charges stem from a woman coming to the Ancilmo Marshall Command and reporting to police at 8:39 a.m. Monday that she was assaulted by a male acquaintance, according to the VIPD.

The woman told police that the assaults began on October 7, 2018, when she was slapped several times to the face.

She also reported that she was assaulted several days later, where the man hit her in the chest, and threatened her.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau contacted Acosta and he allegedly admitted to assaulting the woman.

No bail was set Acosta as per the domestic violence statute. He was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
