CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Police arrested a St. Thomas man after they said he punched a pregnant woman in the face and sat on her belly.
Reynaldo Williams, 27, of Frenchman’s Bay was arrested and charged with third-degree assault-domestic violence on Monday, three days after he allegedly assaulted the woman, according to police sources. The woman is seven months pregnant.
The woman told police that on November 16, Williams punched her in the eye and sat on her stomach, causing her to have early contractions.
The woman sought treatment for her injuries at the Schneider Regional Medical Center and then reported the incident to police on November 17.
Williams was escorted to the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 10:05 a.m. on Monday at which time police said he waived his Miranda rights.
After Williams gave a statement to police admitting that he had hit the woman in the face, he was arrested and remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections as he waits for an advice-of-rights hearing.
