WAPA Cuts Off Water Supply From Kingshill to Frederiksted To Do 'Emergency' Repairs

CHRISTIANSTED — The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said it cut off the water supply to its potable water customers from Kingshill at mid-island to the western end of the island including the town of Frederiksted in order to do “emergency repairs.”

On Wednesday, the water department experienced a failed pump at the Richmond pump station which impacted storage levels at the Kingshill tank, WAPA said.

“Storage levels have since been depleted causing customers to experience low water pressure to no service.” the authority said on Facebook.

Crews are working to make repairs to the failed pump and anticipate that the Richmond station will be back on line by Friday morning. Once on line, capacity will be restored to the Kingshill tank which will facilitate a restoration of service.

WAPA said it “apologizes for any inconvenience this emergency service interruption may cause.”
