Shop With A Cop Is A Fun-Filled Day on St. Thomas

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — The Virgin Islands Police Department Crime Prevention Bureau is scheduled to have their annual “Shop with a Cop” activity.

Shop with a Cop provides a fun-filled day for a number of children in need throughout the St. Thomas/St. John District, while creating positive relationships with law enforcement.

This unique December shopping experience assists children and can deter them from choosing a life of crime or violence.

Events like these will be taken place at stores in more than 300 communities across the country from November to December.

In spite of the two hurricanes that devastated our territory, we continue to look ahead with the intent of providing a gift for 100 children. The event is scheduled for December 14, 2018 at the Kmart in the country between the with a scheduled time of 9:00AM – 12:00AM. Christmas will not be easy for many of our families and as such, the Virgin Islands Police Department and all Law Enforcement entities would like to collaborate and ensure that some of our children are afforded a Christmas this year.

A total of fourteen schools (14) have been identified to participate in the “Shop with a Cop” initiative. The school’s principal and guidance counselor will identify their students who are in need. The participants will then be partnered with a Law Enforcement Officer who will chaperone them, where they will have an opportunity to select a gift of their choice. Upon completion the near 100 students will be taken to McDonalds for lunch. Community Businesses and agencies such as Kmart, Walgreens, OfficeMax the United States Attorney’s Office, US Marshalls, DEA/HIDTA, FBI, Homeland Security, Superior and FEMA have all partnered to make this event a success.

Santa will be our very own Deputy Chief David Cannonier of the VIPD. DC Cannonier looks forward to this event every year as he puts the smiles on our children faces.

We look forward to you covering this event, as we bring all level of law enforcement together in the holiday spirit.

Please do not hesitative to contact him if any additional information is needed. Cannonier can be reached at (340) 344-4516 and 340-714-4126.
