FREDERIKSTED — A St. Croix man was shot to death while ringing in the New Year at a Mount Pleasant bar early this morning.
Joseph O. Brow, 34, of Grove Place was shot multiple times near the Coconut Bar just before 5:46 a.m. today, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
Brow was transported by a private vehicle to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment, according to the VIPD.
But Brow sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body and ultimately succumbed to his injuries. He was identified by next of kin.
VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said that the two people who were fighting with Brow outside of the bar have not been identified.
On social media, Brow said that he attended the St. Croix Educational Complex High School.
There were 45 homicides in the Virgin Islands in 2018; 31 in St. Croix and 14 in St. Thomas.
This homicide is under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB). Police detectives are asking for information that might lead to an arrest.
