CHRISTIANSTED — The Virgin Islands Police Department’s Special Operations Bureau conducted a traffic stop in Sion Farm on Wednesday.
When the SOB pulled over a vehicle with no license plate about 6:07 p.m. Wednesday, Kimani A. Chiverton was asked for his registration documents.
Instead of providing the documents as requested to police, Chiverton drove off at “a high rate of speed,” according to the VIPD.
Police with the bureau maintained visual contact with Chiverton’s vehicle and the followed it into a driveway at a residence in the Sion Farm area, VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said.
“Once the vehicle came to a stop the officers observed a male individual, who was later identified as Gyasi Chiverton, exit the vehicle’s passenger front door and took off running,” Dratte said. “Kimani was immediately detained.”
Gyasi ran into the residence where officers immediately set up a perimeter around the residence and were able to secure a search warrant, police said.
“As a result of executing the search warrant 32 live 9mm rounds and a large amount of marijuana were discovered in a room that was later identified as Gyasi Chiverton’s room.” Dratte said.
Each brother was arrested.
Kimani A. Chiverton, 24, was placed under arrest for interfering with an officer discharging his duty. Bail was set at $1,000.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Gyasi Chiverton, 21, is not authorized to possess or sell ammunition in the territory, according to the VIPD.
Gysai Chiverton was placed under arrest for unauthorized possession or sale of ammunition, possession of a uncontrolled substance with intent to distribute. Bail was set at $10,000.00.
Neither Chiverton brother was able to post bail.
Each man was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Correctional Facility pending further court action.
