VIWMA: 'Mechanical Failure' Shuts Down Cancryn Pump Station on St. Thomas

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) said that the Cancryn Pump Station is temporarily offline due to mechanical failure.

VIWMA’s contract partners and staff are working to repair and place the pump station back online since Friday.

Updates on changes that may affect public health and the environment will be provided, according to the authority.

“Residents and businesses are asked to refrain from pouring liquid grease and various personal products down the drain,” VIWMA said. “These items can and do impact operations at the Authority’s pump stations and wastewater treatment facilities.”

The VIWMA Preserving Paradise team said it “truly apologizes for any inconvenience that this may cause and would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation.”
