SAN JUAN — Seaborne Airlines began nonstop flights between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic on February 15.

The new flights operate three days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and will increase to daily service on May 23.

Seaborne started the weekly service between San Juan (SJU) and Santiago de los Caballero (STI) four days ago.

The new service offers opportunities to experience nearby favorite vacation destinations, including the beaches of Puerto Plata, the birthplace of tourism in the Dominican Republic, and the peace, tranquility and nature of Jarabacoa, the country’s most popular eco-tourism

“We are thrilled that Seaborne Airlines has returned to the Dominican market,” said Jesus Medina, COO, Seaborne Airlines. “Santiago shares important historical, cultural and economic ties with Puerto Rico and we are delighted to be providing safe, reliable and customer-friendly service for travellers in the region.”

The carrier will operate the 307-mile trip three times weekly using its fleet of Saab 340s, with departures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

“With the start of this route Seaborne will transport hundreds of Dominicans and tourists through Cibao International Airport to enjoy the charms of the north and much of the country,” said Cibao International Airport’s Public Relations Officer Santiago González. “We are happy to have Seaborne back at Cibao Airport and we appreciate Seaborne Airlines executives once again placing trust in our services for the reopening of their operations in the country.”

No other carrier currently operates between the two airports.

Seaborne is owned and cooperatively operated by Silver Airways.
