Armed Robbers Get $2K In Cash From Tutu Park McDonald's In St. Thomas Just Before Midnight

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Two masked armed robbers made off with at least $2,000 in cash and smart phones at the McDonald’s restaurant in the Tutu Park Mall just before midnight.

Patrol officers and detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau and crime scene technicians responded immediately to the 911 Emergency Call that came in at 11:31 p.m. Thursday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that, after closing, an employee was taking out the garbage through a rear door, when he was confronted outside by an unknown individual, dressed in all black wearing a black ski mask, according to the VIPD.

“The individual placed a gun to the employee’s head and instructed the employee to keep walking back into the restaurant,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said. “Another individual also dressed in all black with a black ski mask followed behind, also with a gun in hand.”

While inside the individuals pointed their guns at other employees and demanded their cellphones and removed over $2,000 in cash from the restaurant’s registers, the VIPD said.

The individuals then fled the scene in an unknown direction, according to the VIPD.

No employees were hurt by the bandits during the robbery. the police said.
