CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Police said someone brought a hammer to a knife fight in St. Thomas Friday afternoon.
Theodore W. Meade, 50, was arrested and charged with third-degree assault about 3:40 p.m. on Friday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
Police were dispatched to “a fight in progress” in a Contant sports bar about 3:38 p.m. Friday, according to the VIPD.
The victim told police he was at the sports bar “to complete a service when he was assaulted with a hammer to the head” by Meade, VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said.
“The victim was transported to RLSH by ambulance,” according to Dratte.
Meade was taken to the Criminal Investigation Bureau for further questioning, police said.
Bail for Meade was set at 25,000.00 by the order of the Superior Court.
Unable to post bail, he was booked, processed and turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
Initial reports said that the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched police to break up a knife fight in progress in Contant.
Police found a man who had armed himself with a hammer when they got there, according to Dratte.
No further information was available about a knife in the fight, he said.
