Lockhart Elementary School Put On Lock Down While Police Capture Suspect Near St. Thomas Hospital

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — An elementary school was put on lock down this morning so police could capture a suspect near it and the St. Thomas hospital.

“A situation occurred in the vicinity of the Schneider Regional Medical Center on St. Thomas,” the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency said. “For safety, the Lockhart Elementary school was on lock down while VIPD officers conducted a search for a suspect.”

The suspect was apprehended and is in police custody, according to VITEMA.

“The school is ‘all clear’ at this time,” VITEMA said about 11:30 a.m. today.

No comment from the Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) or the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) so far.

Instead of commenting, VIDE shared VITEMA’s post on Facebook about the incident.
