Native of Dominican Republic Identified As Pedestrian Killed Near Krum Bay Road on St. Thomas

THE DECEASED: Juan Carlos Martinez Urena, 51, of the Dominican Republic

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — The man who was struck down dead by a motorist on Krum Bay Road in St. Thomas seven days ago has been identified by authorities.

Juan Carlos Martinez Urena, 51, a native of the Dominican Republic, was killed just before 8:55 p.m. Wednesday by a vehicle traveling west near Addelita Cancryn Junior High School, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte told the Virgin Islands Free Press today that the driver of the vehicle who struck down Martinez Urena remained at the accident scene after hitting him.

The public release of Martinez Urena’s name was delayed by police so that his next of kin could be notified, Dratte said.

Martinez Urena was taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center via ambulance and later succumbed to his injuries sustained from the accident.

The incident is under active investigation by the VIPD Traffic Division.

The V.I. Free Press asked police if the victim was a legal resident of the U.S. Virgin Islands at the time of the accident. No official word back on that.
