CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A pedestrian was killed by a motorist on Krum Bay Road in St. Thomas Wednesday night, authorities said.
Police said a vehicle traveling west near Addelita Cancryn Junior High School when it struck a 51-year-old Hispanic man about 8:55 p.m. on Wednesday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said the man “was transported to the hospital via ambulance and later succumbed to his injuries sustained from the accident.”
“His identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification,” Dratte said.
The incident is under active investigation by the VIPD Traffic Division.
EDITOR’S NOTE: An earlier version of this article in which Juan Carlos Martinez Urena of the Dominican Republic was killed by a motorist said that he was 52 years old and died on Thursday before 7:55 p.m. — that was the information from the Virgin Islands Police Department at the time of publication. Now the VIPD says Martinez Urena was 51 years old and struck before 8:55 p.m. on Wednesday.
