FREDERIKSTED — St. Croix Senator Alicia Barnes said today she acknowledges that WAPA’s distribution of potable water to residents west of the Kingshill storage tank continues to be a problem.
Considering this, Senator Barnes is once again calling on Governor Albert Bryan, Jr. to activate the resources of the Virgin Islands National Guard (VING) to bring immediate relief to our affected residents.
“Specifically, the VING water purification unit can be activated to set up a water distribution point to supply our affected residents with potable water. The VING water purification unit can produce up to 55,000 gallons of potable water per day. Although this may not be a permanent fix, it is an interim measure to bring immediate relief to affected residents,” Senator Barnes said.
WAPA has installed additional pumps at their Richmond and Contentment pump stations, however the increased pressure has revealed leaks in the system which has further hindered WAPA’S efforts. The use of the VING resources will bring immediate relief to our residents while WAPA works towards corrective measures and repairs.
Senator Barnes said she promises to keep the people informed and will continue to provide solutions to ensure appropriate contingency planning. Senator Barnes stressed that our citizens must be afforded the basic need of potable drinking water.
