CRUZ BAY — A 19-year-old St. John man has been arrested as the gun-toting, gun-butting “Good Samaritan” attacker of a hitchhiker from earlier this month.
Ezius Ashly, 19, of Cruz Bay, was arrested at 1:52 p.m on Sunday and charged with first-degree robbery, the Virgin Islands Police Department said today.
On Monday, March 4, 2019 at about 1:48 a.m., a police patrol was dispatched to Quiet Mon Pub located on Prince Street, St. John after a hitchhiker was assaulted the previous night, according to the VIPD.
Police interviewed the victim who was standing in the roadway in front of Quiet Mon Pub when they arrived on the scene.
The victim was “bleeding from cuts to his face and there were several small round areas of swelling to the left side of his head,” the VIPD said.
“The victim stated that he was attacked by one Ezius Ashly, who struck him repeatedly to the head with a revolver,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said. “The victim also stated that Mr. Ashly grabbed the victim’s 36-inch Gucci chain off his person and drove away.”
On Sunday, March 24, 2019 at approximately 1:40 p.m., officers were in the area of the U.S. Postal Service, located in St. John, where. Ashly was dressed in a red t-shirt, red short pants and black slippers, standing at Customs Dock parking lot.
“Ashly suddenly took off running towards the Customs Dock, in the National Park area,” Dratte said. “Officers then chased him on foot, however he jumped off the dock into the water and refused to get out. The officers got Mr. Ashly out of the water and placed him under arrest.”
Divers from St. John Low Key Water Sports, the National Park personnel were able to assist VIPD with retrieving the revolver from the water.
“This young man robbed me at gunpoint in the Skinny Legs parking lot, pistol whipped my friend, and stalked me and my daughter all over Coral Bay and the (St. John) Island,” C.R. on yahoo mail. “He is past rehabilitation he has never had to redeem himself or been held accountable for his inhumane crimes. He has terrorized the community and is better off incarcerated as his family is completely unable to control him. He’s lucky to be alive after the heinous behavior he has exhibited. Bye bye ZI!! Let the island finally begin to recover.”
Ashly bail was set at 25,000.00 by the Order of the Court. He was booked, processed and turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his Advice of Rights Hearing.
