CRUZ BAY — A man with a history of mental illness went on a destructive rampage in the parking lot of The Marketplace in St. John and damaged about 30 cars with a metal pipe, authorities said.
Jahkoy “Killakoy” Bolques, 23, of Cruz Bay was detained Wednesday afternoon without incident and could be charged at a later date with multiple counts of damaging a vehicle, delaying and obstructing a peace officer and disturbing the peace, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“After careful review of this matter, the VIPD has place(d) Jahkoy Bolques in the care and custody of Schneider Regional Medical Center, Behavioral Analysis Unit,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said at 5:21 p.m. today. “Any arrest that would made will be in collaboration with (the) Attorney General’s Office of the Virgin Islands.”
At 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to 911 dispatchers calls about Bolques smashing car windshields near the Starfish Market in Cruz Bay, according to the VIPD.
Dratte said at 1:57 p.m. today that Bolques, “a local mental patient … had an episode in the area of Starfish Market and took a metal object to several vehicles in the Starfish Market parking lot damaging approximately 30 vehicles.” He also stated then that Bolques had been arrested.
“Preliminary investigation revealed Bolques was an employee at the Starfish Market, reported to work an hour early and subsequently started to act in an irrational manner,” Dratte said.
Bolques calls himself a “hip hop, rap and dancehall” music artist online at ReverbNation.
