St. Thomas’ Geneva Callwood Charged In Brutal Assault Of Parade-goer At Carnival 2019
CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A 34-year-old St. Thomas woman was arrested Tuesday on charges that she assaulted an unidentified woman near Lionel Roberts Stadium on Bjerge Gade May 4, authorities said.
Geneva “Jenevar” Callwood of Bovoni was arrested at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday and charged with aggravated assault and battery, disturbance of the peace by fighting and aiding and abetting, police sources said.
The woman told police that she was attacked during the Adult’s Parade this year.
“The victim presented a video recording of the assault to police, which clearly shows Callwood and other individuals assaulting her,” a VIPD police spokesperson said.
Police said the video allowed them to get a Superior Court warrant for the arrest of Callwood on July 11. Callwood was taken into official custody on July 16.
Callwood’s bail was set at $2,500. After posting bail, she was freed on her own recognizance.
Sources said other suspects visible in the video, once positively identified by police, are likely to be arrested in connection with the case.
VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte did not respond to multiple requests for information about this incident.
Police officials did not name Callwood’s accuser.
The news comes nearly one week after it happened because the Virgin Islands Police Department was not open, transparent and forthcoming about what happened at St. Thomas Carnival in 2019.
The actual alleged crime happened on May 4 — and police sources did not admit it had occurred until 73 days after the event.
“She and her sisters always fighting for man,” Nailah S. commented in the Virgin Islands Free Press. “Good for her ass!”
Earlier versions of this online news article published Geneva Callwood’s name as “Jenevar Callwood” because the VIPD spelled her name that way.
The VIPD often spells names the way they are pronounced phonetically, rather than taking the time to ask the person in question how their name is actually spelled.
The V.I. Free Press discovered the correct spelling of Callwood’s name on her Facebook page.
