CHRISTIANSTED — Gunshots rang out just before midnight in Golden Rock on Saturday, leaving an unidentified man dead, authorities said.
The 911 Emergency Call Center received reports of a “discharging of shots in the Golden Rock area” of St. Croix about 11:40 p.m. on Saturday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Upon officer’s arrival they discovered an unresponsive Caucasian male on the sidewalk,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said this evening. “The male was shot multiple times about the body and succumbed to his injuries.”
The dead man’s name is being withheld pending notification of a next of kin, according to Dratte.
The VIPD alerted the Virgin Islands Free Press to the homicide at 6:04 p.m. today.
At 2:04 p.m. on September 3, the VIPD said that the dead man was Randy Stickle, 46, of Ohio.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau is asking the community for their assistance with any information regarding this incident.
The VIPD issued a press release on Stickle on October 27, 2009 saying that he was a “burglar caught in the act.”
