‘Cadaver Dogs’ Sent In In Grim Search For Dead Body of Kentucky Woman On St. John

CRUZ BAY — St. John Deputy Police Chief David Cannonier said that the search for missing Kentucky native Lucy Schuhmann is still ongoing.  

Recently the VIPD deployed its K-9 unit cadaver dogs to join in the search with the National Park Service Rangers, St. John Rescue and other law enforcement entities in the search for the 48-year-old Louisville, Ky resident, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.

“There is a concentrated effort being conducted now in an area that officials believe Ms. Schuhmann may have been before missing,” VIPD spokesman Glen Dratte said. “The VIPD is utilizing all assets and resources available in its efforts in the search.”

On September 20, 2019, the owner for the rental unit call  911 at 6:18p.m., and reported that Schuhmann left her Coral Bay rental unit in a rented yellow Jeep Wrangler, she was expected to check out of the unit and return the rented Jeep on Thursday, September 19, 2019, but hasn’t been seen her since 8:00a.m.,Wednesday September 18, 2019. 

Her rental car was found in the National Park near Trunk Bay, nothing suspicious noted. The Park Rangers were notified. Inspection of the waters surrounding Trunk Bay was conducted with negative findings. A search on the Park is ongoing. Contact was made with her family on the mainland who indicated that she likes to hike and adventure out in areas like the Park.
