CHRISTIANSTED — The planned ambush by four men of a driver in Barren Spot yielded only a injured passenger in the target vehicle late Tuesday night, authorities said.
The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to the Juan F. Luis Hospital to investigate a report of a gunshot victim in Barren Spot about 11:36 p.m. Tuesday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
When police arrived on the scene of the shooting, they discovered an unoccupied vehicle with the engine still running that had bullet holes on it, according to the VIPD.
“Officers eventually found the driver of the vehicle who stated that he was ambushed by four black males in Barren Spot who fired upon his vehicle,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “He said that his passenger was shot, however he was able to escape and obtain medical assistance for his passenger. “
The gunshot victim received treatment for his injuries at the hospital.
The matter is being investigated by detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB).
