St. Croix's Michael Delande Arrested For Kiting 2 Checks At Plaza Extra West: VIPD

ARRESTED: Michael Delande, 27, of Strawberry Hill, St. Croix.

CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man who learned that he is wanted for alleged incidents of check kiting has voluntarily turned himself in to police, authorities said.

Michael Delande, 27, of Strawberry Hill was arrested about 11:21 a.m. Sunday and charged with passing forged bills or notes; obtaining money by false pretenses; forgery; grand larceny and identity theft, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

On April 19, 2018, the Economic Crimes Unit initiated an investigation that revealed that Delande cashed two counterfeit Virgin Islands Housing Authority checks totaling over $1,000 using his real identity in Plaza Extra West in Estate Plessen, according to the VIPD.

Bail for Delande was set at $50,000.  Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections (BOC) pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
