CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A flash of lights.
Then a flash of gunfire.
And the St. Thomas shooting victim was quickly in his own car … driving himself to the hospital.
Police were dispatched to the Schneider Regional Medical Center in reference to a gunshot victim at 10:37 p.m. on Friday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
The victim at the hospital stated that he was walking in Anna’s Fancy in the vicinity of Rosa’s Bar when a dark colored vehicle drove by with its high beam headlights on, according to the VIPD.
“An occupant in the vehicle fired several shots at him,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “The victim observed he was shot and ran towards his residence, got into his private vehicle and drove himself to the hospital for treatment. The victim further stated that the vehicle that fired the shots after him sped away westward on Harwood Highway.”
The unnamed man told police that he did not see who fired shots after him.
Although the man sustained two gunshot wounds, he was reported to be in stable condition at the St. Thomas hospital named after former Governor Roy Lester Schneider.
This case is presently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB).
