CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A woman told police that a stalker followed her home from a Frydendal fruit stand and snuck into her home and raped her, authorities said.
Detectives were dispatched to the Schneider Regional Medical Center in reference to a sexual assault allegation made about 4 p.m. on Saturday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“The victim reported that while with friends in the area of the Fruit Stand, she was approached by a person familiar to her,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “She stated that while departing the area, the male attempted to talk to her, but she dismissed him and continued home.”
The woman said that she locked and secured her residence before going to bed, and subsequently awakened to the same male intruder in her room, according to Derima.
“She said that she pushed him off and ran to a nearby apartment,” he said, adding that the woman was raped.
Police are investigating the matter as a first-degree rape, according to a prepared statement from the VIPD.
It is currently under active investigation by the Domestic Violence Unit.
