FREDERIKSTED — Police are investigating a Thursday night armed robbery by two St. Croix men wearing t-shirts to hide their faces, authorities said.
The 911 Emergency Call Center notified officers that a robbery was in progress at the KFC Restaurant on King Street in Frederiksted about 8:47 p.m. on Thursday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Investigation revealed that two black males dressed in all black and armed with handguns entered the establishment and removed cash out of the register, fleeing on foot in an unknown direction,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “Officers received a tip from a concerned citizen that the two suspects ran towards Fort Frederik and entered a black vehicle.”
One suspect was described by police as having a dark complexion, slim build with muscular definition, and about 5-feet, 6 inches tall, wearing a black shirt to cover his face and a black long-sleeved shirt on his torso. The other suspect was described as having a slim build, wearing a shirt over his face and wearing a long-sleeved two-toned sweater on his upper body.
The armed robbers made off with an undetermined amount of cash in the heist. A question about how much money was stolen was not immediately answered.
This incident is under active police investigation.
