MID-ISLAND, St. Croix — A discount store employee was attacked by a customer with a box cutter and seriously injured on Monday afternoon, authorities said. The employee has since been flown off-island for emergency medical treatment.
The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to a physical disturbance at Cash & Carry, located in Estate La Reine about 2:50 p.m. on Monday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“A customer at the store reportedly attacked an employee of the store with a box cutter,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “The employee sustained multiple lacerations in the incident, with one of the injuries potentially life-threatening.”
The employee, attempting to defend himself in the attack, armed himself with bottles and swung, causing injuries to the customer, according to Derima.
“One of the customer’s injuries is potentially life-threatening as well,” he said.
Each injured person was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The employee was later airlifted off-island due to the seriousness of his injuries.
This case is currently underactive investigation.
