Man Shot Twice In Drive-By Shooting Near Mango Tree Bar In Smith Bay: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man was hospitalized after being shot twice in a drive-by shooting in Smith Bay on Monday night, authorities said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers to Smith Bay in the vicinity of the Mango Tree Bar in reference to shots being fired about 8:35 p.m. Monday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Shortly after that, officers were notified that there was a gunshot victim at the Schneider Regional Medical Center, according to the VIPD.

“The victim reported that he was driving westward in the area when someone in a silver vehicle traveling in the opposite direction fired shots at him,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “He said he continued driving until his vehicle stopped in the vicinity of Lake’s Chicken Fry.”

The victim went on to state that an unknown individual transported him via private vehicle to the hospital, police said.

He sustained two gunshot wounds in the incident and was in stable condition, according to police.

This case is currently under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB).
