Blyden Calls On DPW To Finish Roadway Projects While There Is No Traffic

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Senator Marvin Blyden called upon the Department of Public Works to “expeditiously” complete all ongoing infrastructure projects while the social distancing provisions of the governor’s executive order are still in place.

St. Thomas Senator Blyden also said that he is in communication with DPW Commissioner Nelson Petty Jr. and Governor Albert Bryan, Jr. about fast-tracking road construction and repair projects.

“The current stay-at-home order creates a situation in which there are fewer people on the roadways,” Blyden said. “As such, this is an ideal time to carry out road projects while creating minimal disruption for residents.”

Additionally, the Senate Majority Leader said that the “global economic slowdown and the virtual shutdown of our tourism sector creates a dire need for an influx of dollars and economic activity in the territory.”

“Road construction and repair does just that, as it injects a mixture of local and federal monies into the economy and creates employment,” the senator said.

Blyden said he commended DPW for “the progress it has made on the Frenchtown Road Pavement Rehabilitation and Thermoplastic Marking Installation project.”

He said he encourages DPW “to work with similar haste on the Main Street Revitalization Project and other infrastructure projects in the territory.”

Residents can view the ongoing DPW projects on the Department’s website. Senator Blyden encourages the community to email his office at mblyden@legvi.org – leave messages for his office at 340-693-3567, or send a message to his Facebook page for more information about Blyden’s efforts.
