Smith Bay Man Accused Of Rape Three Months Ago Arrested By Police: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas man accused of a rape three months ago was arrested on rape and assault charges after he voluntarily turned himself in to police without incident, authorities said.

Gregory Anthony Beckford, 43, of Smith Bay was arrested about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday and charged with first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful sexual contact, first-degree assault and aggravated assault & battery, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“Beckford is accused of forcibly sexually assaulting a female victim on January 7,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

Bail for Beckford was set at $50,000. Unable to post bail he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice- of-rights hearing.

This case is currently under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB).
