CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A confirmed COVID-19 patient was taken off of a cargo ship docked behind Hassel Island on Thursday and brought to St. Thomas for needed medical treatment, the Virgin Islands Free Press has learned.
Despite the fact that the Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA), St. Thomas Rescue, Schneider Regional Medical Center Emergency Medical Technicians were all involved in the sea evacuation to land on St. Thomas, none of those agencies reported the rescue.
The confirmed novel coronavirus patient was brought to the Charlotte Amalie waterfront area for extraction to the St. Thomas hospital with the assistance of VIPA K-9 units, SRMC EMTs and St. Thomas Rescue, sources close to the rescue said.
“The waterfront operation went smoothly and was professionally undertaken,” the source speaking confidentially to the V.I. Free Press observed. “The cargo ship the patient came off of remains in the outer Charlotte Amalie harbor.”
The most recent Government House communique, issued on Thursday afternoon by Governor Albert Bryan’s press secretary, specifically stated that no one was currently hospitalized for COVID-19 in the Schneider Regional Medical Center and Hospital on St. Thomas.
