Melvin Evans Highway Detours Near Sunny Isle Go Into Effect On Monday: VIPD

CHRISTIANSTED — The VIPD Traffic Investigation Bureau is advising the motoring public that on Monday, May 4, VIAPCO will be completing road paving at the stoplights near the Sunny Isle Shopping Center. The roadwork is slated to begin at 4 a.m. and is scheduled to take four to six hours.

The intersection will be closed to traffic during this time. Eastbound traffic on the Melvin Evans Highway will be diverted towards Queen Mary Highway, vicinity of Oriental Bank (formerly ScotiaBank). Eastbound traffic on Queen Mary Highway passing the Sunny Isle Shopping Center will be routed through the mall, either exiting near Wendy’s or near the Red Cross. Westbound traffic to the intersection will be diverted to Castle Coakley Road towards the Limetree Refinery and onto Hope Road, to continue westbound to enter the Melvin Evans Highway.

The VIPD is asking the motoring public to leave home 30 to 45 minutes earlier to adjust to the rerouting of traffic, or take alternate routes to avoid the intersection.

The Department regrets any inconvenience these road closures may cause. For more information, please contact the Traffic Investigation Bureau at (340) 778-2211.
