2 Men Shot Near Picaso's Coffee Bar In Smith Bay Are Hospitalized: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Two St. Thomas men were shot but not seriously wounded near a high-end coffee shop in Smith Bay about 9:36 p.m. Saturday, authorities said

Officers traveled to the scene and found several spent casings near the Picaso’s Coffee Bar on Smith Bay Road, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center also notified officers of two male gunshot wound victims at the Schneider Regional Medical Center (SRMC), according to the VIPD.

“The males reported that they were driving from Smith Bay when they were shot by an unknown gunman,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “The males drove themselves to the hospital for treatment.”

Meanwhile, the reaction on social media was mostly for the welfare of the two shooting victims.

“Hope they both survive,” Michelle Bryan Felder said on Facebook. “So much shooting going on around here. Even right outside the resorts. Damn.”

Pablo Picasso, the famous Spanish-born French artist from Málaga, spelled his name with two s’s. The St. Thomas coffee shop uses one “s” in its name.

This case is currently under active investigation.
