St. Croix Men Jump Out Of SUV And Start Shooting People In Supermarket Parking Lot: VIPD

CHRISTIANSTED — St. Croix men jumped out of an SUV with no license plate and opened fire on people standing in the parking lot of a Peter’s Rest-area supermarket late Friday night, authorities said. No one was seriously injured in the shooting.

The 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of shots fired in the parking lot of the United Shopping Plaza at 11:10 p.m. Friday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Officers arrived at the area and learned that a male victim was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center via private vehicle, according to the VIPD.

“Witnesses on the scene stated that a silver Ford Escape with no license plate came into the shopping center and traveled around the parking lot in the opposite direction of the flow of traffic,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “The passengers inside the Ford Escape opened fire on a group of individuals.”

The victim received multiple gunshot injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was listed in stable condition, according to Derima.

United Shopping Plaza in Estate Peter’s Rest has Plaza Extra East supermarket and Ashley Furniture Home Store, among others, as tenants.

This incident is currently under active investigation.
