Coward Extradited From Baltimore To Face Charges In Barber Shop Armed Robbery

CHARGED: Shemar Coward, 20, of Water Bay Condos on St. Thomas.

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — An alleged St. Thomas armed robber has been arrested in Maryland and will be brought back to the territory to face charges that he stole $2,000 from a barber shop at gunpoint with an accomplice here, authorities said.

Shemar Coward, 20, of Water Bay Condos, was arrested at 3:15 p.m. Friday and charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, second-degree robbery, first-degree assault, use of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence and conspiracy to commit robbery, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“Coward was apprehended in Baltimore, Maryland and extradited to the Virgin Islands to face his charges,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “Coward is accused of being one of two suspects who robbed Exquisite Barber Shop and Bar located in Vitraco Park at gunpoint on May 25.”

Members of the VIPD Warrant Unit made the arrest of Coward on Friday, according to Derima.

Coward’s bail was set at $250,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice- of-rights hearing.

ELIJAH ‘YEAH DANNY’ EDWARDS ALSO WANTED FOR ROBBERY

Elijah “Yeah Danny” Edwards, 20, of St. Thomas has been wanted by the VIPD as Coward’s alleged accomplice since June of 2019.

Details were sketchy tonight, but according to published reports, Coward was arrested with two other males (one a minor) in connection to two armed robberies and a vehicle theft in Baltimore County in January of 2020, according to Fox 45-Baltimore.

Based on the charges against him, Coward could face federal charges as well.

Meanwhile, not every Facebook reader liked that the Virgin Islands Free Press traded in the currency of the suspect’s name: “Coward.”

Facebook troll Jay Weston said it was unfair to call Coward a “coward” because he is a “black man” and therefore cannot be criticized under any circumstances.
