St. Thomas Men Who Brandish Weapons And Shoot At Each Other Are Arrested: VIPD

CHARLOTTE AMALIE — Two St. Thomas men were arrested by police after allegedly brandishing weapons and shooting at each other, authorities said. No one was seriously injured in the shootings.

Valentine Emmanuel Govia, 36, of Thomasville, and Roy Jeffery Prosper, 41, of Frydendahl, were arrested about 7:00 p.m. Thursday and charged with third-degree assault, first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, first-degree reckless endangerment, discharging/aiming a firearm, possession of unlicensed firearm, possession of an unlicensed firearm within 1,000 Feet of a public park, unauthorized use of a firearm; brandishing, exhibiting or using deadly weapon and disturbance of the peace, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

Govia and Prosper were arrested on Superior Court warrants in connection with an incident that occurred on March 21 in Smith Bay, according to the VIPD.

“In an apparent altercation, both men brandished firearms and shot at each other, with Prosper suffering gunshot wounds,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

Bail for Govia and Prosper was set at $75,000 each by the order of the Superior Court.

Neither man was able to post bail. Each man was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending advice-of-rights hearings.
