CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas motorcyclist died after being thrown from his bike following a collision with a minivan near Donoe early this morning, authorities said.
The 911 Emergency Call Center sent officers to the Weymouth Rhymer Highway near the Donoe Road intersection based on a report of an automobile collision at 5:01 a.m. today, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Upon arrival, officers found evidence of a collision between a minivan and a motorcycle,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “The body of an unresponsive male was lying in the eastbound lane.”
Investigation revealed that the minivan was traveling west on the roadway, as the motorcycle traveled east, according to the VIPD.
“The vehicles collided and the motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle as a result of the collision,” Derima said.
Emergency Medical Technicians on the scene concluded that the rider of the motorcycle had no signs of life.
The driver of the minivan was transported to the Roy L. Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment and released.
The rider of the motorcycle was identified as 32-year-old Rudy Jeanne, according to Derima.
Meanwhile, people in the territory were deeply sympathetic with the accident victim Jeane on social media.
“So sorry to hear of this tragic (accident),” Lavi Gumbs wrote on Facebook tonight. “It brought back memories of the many that died in motorcycle accidents or of leg, hand amputated. 2006 my nephew died at 23 years old from motorcycle accident. Heart broken.”
This case is currently under active investigation.
