Motorcyclist Dies In Head-On Crash With Off-Road Vehicle Near Spyglass Hill: VIPD

CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix motorcyclist died after a head-on collision with an off-road vehicle on the East End Road in Estate Mount Welcome near Spyglass Hill Tuesday night, authorities said.

The 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of an auto accident on the East End Road, just west of the Pearl B. Larsen Elementary School, between a motorcycle and an off-road vehicle at 8:37 p.m. Tuesday, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.

“Officers traveled to the area and found the off-road vehicle with two injured passengers and an unresponsive Caucasian male, the rider of the motorcycle, in the roadway,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.

Richard M. “Derryck” Boehm, 55, of Cane Bay was later identified by the VIPD as the motorcyclist who died in the accident.

Preliminary investigation and statements revealed that the off-road vehicle was traveling east, while the motorcycle was traveling west, Derima said. Each vehicle collided head-on in the westbound lane.

Emergency Medical Technicians on the scene concluded that the rider of the motorcycle had no vital signs.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Responding to a question from the Virgin Islands Free Press, Derima said that the off-road vehicle was licensed for use on the territory’s roads and was “street legal.”

The occupants of the off-road vehicle were transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

Meanwhile, police quickly arrested 23-year-old Azalea Fierros, 23, of Arleta, California and charged her with negligent homicide by vehicle. Fierros was released after posting 10 percent of her bail amount.
