CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A St. Thomas serial offender who was arrested for a nightclub shooting that took place two months ago, was re-arrested in prison on separate East End burglary charges today, authorities said.
Matthew Fontaine, 28, of Dominica, was arrested at 11:24 a.m. today and charged with third-degree burglary, grand larceny and possession of stolen property, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Fontaine, who was already in the custody of the Bureau of Corrections for an unrelated offense, was charged for the burglary of Luther’s Tire Shop in Smith Bay,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.
Bail for Fontaine was set at $25,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
Fontaine was charged in connection to a shooting that took place at the Krush Bar & Nightclub in Cabritaberg on June 21, according to documents filed in the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands.
Fontaine was arrested for the Subbase-area nightclub shooting on July 7 and charged with third-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, possession of an unlicensed firearm, carrying a firearm openly or concealed and disturbance of the peace, according to the probable cause fact sheet filed by police.
He was also arrested in late August of 2011 for brandishing a knife in the Tutu Park Mall, according to police records.
