Richmond Fire Station Closed For Cleaning, Sanitizing After Employee Tests Positive For COVID-19

CHRISTIANSTED — The Virgin Islands Fire Service advises the public that the Herbert L. Canegata Fire Station, located in St. Croix has been temporarily closed due to an employee testing positive for COVID-19.

The Estate Richmond station will be cleaned and sanitized prior to its reopening on Monday.

The closure will not affect the agency’s emergency operations, according to the Fire Service.

“Personnel assigned to the station will be temporarily re-assigned to the agency’s three other fire stations,” the Fire Service said in a prepared statement released by Government House. “And once sanitized equipment will also be re-assigned.”

Employees who may have been exposed to the infected individual have been required to quarantine until testing can be conducted.

“The safety of our employees and the public is paramount,” VIFS Director Daryl George said. “We are doing everything we can to ensure everyone remains protected.”

The Virgin Islands Fire Service operates under the Office of the Governor.
