How The Dominican Republic And The U.S. Virgin Islands Are Alike When It Comes To COVID-19 Cases

SANTO DOMINGO — When it comes to the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic has the most cases by far, 110,122 cases as of today.

But when you look at per capita data, the Dominican Republic actually trails the U.S. Virgin Islands.

According to MJS & Associates Health Care statistics in the British Virgin Islands, the DR has 1,022 cases per 100,000 people while the USVI has 1,203 cases per 100,000 people.

Where the Dominican Republic is unquestionably leading the region is in the number of deaths. As of today, the DR has recorded 2,076 fatalities; while the USVI has 19.

Puerto Rico has the second-highest of total of COVID-19 in the Caribbean, with 43,842 confirmed cases and 627 deaths as of today.

Haiti has the third-most cases of COVID-19 in the region with 8,624 confirmed cases and 221 deaths.
