CHRISTIANSTED — A St. Croix man who was at a gas station with an illegal gun on his person in plain view was arrested by police, authorities said.
Robert Mason, 44, of Little Princesse was arrested at 2:14 a.m. Tuesday and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“He was found at a gas station with a gun on his person,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said.
Bail for Mason was set at $50,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections (BOC) pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
Police said the community is urged to say what they know to police by calling 911 or the anonymous tip line, Crime Stoppers USVI by calling 1 (800) 222-TIPS.
“Remember, if you see something, say something,” Derima said.
