CHARLOTTE AMALIE — A Virgin Islands police officer is being credited with saving a St. Thomas man’s life after foiling an attempted kidnapping on Monday.
Troy A. Harrigan, 51, of Estate Tutu was arrested at 7:00 p.m. Monday and charged with false imprisonment and kidnapping, the Virgin Islands Police Department said.
“Harrigan is accused of kidnapping a man at gunpoint,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said. “The victim was bound and assaulted.”
The victim was rescued by a police officer on routine patrol, Derima said.
The victim was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment of the injuries he sustained in the incident.
Bail for Harrigan was set at $100,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the custody of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections pending an advice-of-rights hearing.
St. Thomas/St. John Chief of Police Steven Phillip commended the unnamed officer who saved the victim’s life.
